Matt CurtisMatt Curtis

Matt Curtis holds dual B.A. Degrees from the University of North Carolina and is the Chief Executive Officer of a creative services firm, Industry Nine Five. Matt works with a wide variety of clients to improve their strategic business and marketing communications. We at Lundy Charters are fortunate enough to occasionally steal Matt away from his entrepreneurial endeavors to serve as a consultant and captain. Having grown up boating with Chris and Jim, his experience has always been an invaluable resource to our team.







Maria Powell - Captain British Virgin Islands BVI Caribbean Cheasapeak Bay VirginiaMaria Powell

Maria is an alumnus of James Madison University majoring in Finance and Management and is from Richmond, Virginia. She grew up sailing on the Chesapeake Bay at 6 weeks old and has been cruising the Bay on her family’s 42 foot sailboat ever since. For the past 2 years she has captained a 50 foot sailboat in the British Virgin Islands working for an adventure sailing camp for teenagers. She has gained much of her experience during these 12 week programs in the BVIs and knows the islands better now than even the coast of Virginia!






Taylor Furst

Taylor holds a B.A. from Denison University in English. He is an independent contractor for Lundy Charters focusing on web content. Taylor has experience writing and editing on several other projects. His focus thus far has been on the technical side of the business but he will be joining the crew on deliveries to gain enough experience to become part of the Lundy Charters team as a mate as well.








Katie Newell

Katie holds a B.A. in English from North Carolina State University and teaches high school English in Greenville, North Carolina. Her educational experience extends to the outdoors where she has served as a mountaineering and rock climbing instructor. She enjoys kayaking, sailing, and sprint triathlons. Katie looks forward to serving as a mate on our deliveries and charters.










Andrew Godfrey, EMT-P

Andrew Godfrey holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Duke University. While his degree is in Chemistry, the main focus of his studies was pharmacology which remains the primary focus of his continuing education. Currently as a Paramedic, Andrew works in one of the most active districts in North Carolina. Growing up as the son of a veteranarian, Andrew was introduced to medical care at an early age. Versed in large machine, engine, and tractor repair, Andrew is an excellent asset to our team both as a mechanic and a medical provider.






Francis Captain Francis Shiman-Hackett

Francis attended UMass Amherst, both captaining and coaching their sailing team. Originally from Brookline, MA Francis grew up racing dinghies and his Hobie cat in Marblehead, MA. He now holds a US Coast Guard Master's License as well as instructor certifications. For the past 5 years he has taught racing and captained boats on Martha's Vineyard as well as delivering sailboats between New England and the Caribbean. He lives on his 35 foot sailboat when not traveling. He has a computer consulting business specializing in race boat electronics. He enjoys kiteboarding, exploring new places, and loves to share his passion for sailing.





Catherine Smith

Catherine graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.A. in Geography. Currently residing in Boulder, CO, Catherine works as the Community & Partnership Coordinator of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people. A Wilderness EMT and Leave No Trace Master Educator, Catherine has over 8 years of experience as an outdoor educator, working as a backpacking guide, kayak instructor and youth educator. Catherine grew up sailing on North Carolina's lakes and relishes every opportunity she gets to be on the water. These days, you can most likely find Catherine somewhere in the Rockies with her chocolate lab, Oliver, backcountry skiing, hiking or mountain biking.






Carl Hulit

Carl Hulit holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University, and is employed as a Mechanical Design Engineer for Philips Healthcare Ultrasound Systems.  He also holds Wilderness First Responder certification from WMA and is a NOLS graduate.  He grew up in Rye, NY racing sailboats of all shapes and sizes out of American Yacht Club, and started a yacht maintenance business in high school.  During college he became a US Sailing Certified Instructor and taught sailing at Stamford Yacht Club during the summers, and headed up the Duke Crew team during the school year.  He currently resides in Seattle, WA where he is an active bike racer and sails whenever possible. He joined the Lundy Charters crew for spring Break 2008 and looks         forward to expanding operations to the west coast.





Wooten Jones, EMT-I


Wooten holds a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of North Carolina. Raised on the North Carolina coast, Wooten grew up boating, kayaking, fishing and camping throughout the southeast. An Eagle Scout, Wooten has over 7 years of experience as an outdoor educator, serving as a sailing, kayaking, climbing, first aid and lifeguard instructor and has lead dozens of kayaking trips around North Carolina’s barrier islands. He currently works as an EMT-Intermediate in one of the most active districts in the US. Through his work with Lundy Charters, Wooten hopes to combine his two passions, medicine and the outdoors, and help others ignite their enthusiasm for these pursuits.
