SAIL On is a unique opportunity for young men and women who seek not only adventure, but also a sense of accomplishment. This two week team building excursion offers an intense leadership development program aboard a 72' gaff-rigged schooner, the Jeanie B. This impressive sailing vessel becomes home and classroom to the campers as they raise sails, captain the boat, and navigate the ship through the inner and outer banks of North Carolina's coastal waters. Calling on a variety of ports including Belhaven, Manteo, and Ocracoke, campers will learn the cruising aspects of sailing as well as the leadership skills necessary to operate as a fully functioning team in a marine environment.

The Jeanie B provides crew quarters for 12 with additional berths for counselors and a U.S. Coast Guard Certified Captain. Two rotating watches will be established to operate the ship safely and effectively. Each group will build a strong sense of camaraderie among themselves and with the other watch team as they take responsibility for navigating and steering the ship, around-the-clock lookouts, daily chores and routine maintenance, and preparation of all shipboard meals. The campers will also learn the finer points of shiphandling and navigation with the use of paper charts, GPS, radar, and satellite weather feeds. Additionally, the campers will have an opportunity to explore our maritime heritage through historical perspectives of astronomy and celestial navigation. Off boat adventures will include climbing the Alpine Tower, bike riding on the outer banks, sea kayaking, surfing, fishing, snorkeling, exploring uninhabited islands, observing wildlife refuges, visiting historic sites and much more.
